Tracy Nicole Harper heads the Houston, Texas-based Black-owned company Through Her Eyes Trucking Company LLC. She acquired her CDL license to drive commercial trucks around 11 years ago, despite being a victim of domestic abuse and an ex-offender. Now, she is on a mission to assist other underprivileged women in doing the same.

Tracy, age 38, has started a scholarship program via her foundation that will grant $4,350 to three deserving women interested in truck driving with a history of overcoming obstacles, including domestic violence, substance misuse, human trafficking, and incarceration.

Tracy: “I recognize the enormous potential and strength of women who have overcome significant obstacles in their lives.” I hope that with the help of these scholarships, these women will be able to follow their passions in the trucking business and provide better lives for their families.

The scholarship is open to women at least 21 years old, citizens or permanent residents of the United States, and with a valid driver’s license.

A letter of acceptance from a reputable trucking school of your choosing and a tuition fee as proof of enrollment are also required. Applicants should also be able to demonstrate that they have experienced trauma related to the challenges above. (A receipt is required for payment of the reward.)

The last requirement is a two-page essay detailing the applicant’s background, challenges, why they deserve the award, and plans for paying it forward.

How to apply:

Interested women can submit their application through the online form available at HerEyesTrucking.com/scholarship-program or email their essay and completed application to info@hereyestrucking.com.

The application period is now open, and the submission deadline is October 1, 2023, at 4 pm.
