A couple from Rhinebeck, New York, named Chid Liberty and Georgie Badiel-Liberty, are said to have sold their 236-acre estate for $13.7 million. After purchasing the upstate home in 2021 for $8.5 million, they owned it for about a year.
His wife, Georgie, from Burkina Faso, is a fashion model, activist, and philanthropist. Chid, a Liberian native, is an entrepreneur, co-founder, and CEO of the fair-trade garment maker Liberty & Justice and the Made in Africa label. In 2021, they paid $8.5 million to buy the farm in a distressed sale.
A little over a year later, the couple came to an off-market agreement to sell the biodynamic farm for $13.75 million to Six Senses, one of the most abundant hotel brands in the world. According to rumors, the property will be turned into a resort.
A 3,600-square-foot stone mansion constructed in 1768 and preserved with its original characteristics is inside the 236-acre estate. It contains two bedrooms, two bathrooms, an artist’s studio, and eight fireplaces. A 1780s-era 7,200-square-foot barn converted into a 10-room inn and spa is also there.
Together with a friend, the couple invested in the property. It was designed to be utilized as a family complex that they could leave to the next generation.
According to Chid, the plan was to use the property as our primary house and have retreats there for impact groups. We had our retreat with yoga, hiking, and horses and hosted many retreats for Equity Alliance and Unreasonable Impact. We cherished it.
Despite not intending to sell the home, several potential purchasers continued to contact us. At least three bids were turned down before they chose to designate a “ridiculous price.”
After selling their previous house, they moved to Williamsburg and now spend more time traveling. They are also putting effort into their charity and future commercial endeavors.
