After experiencing nearly ten years of homelessness, the six sisters, known as the Lawrence siblings from New York City, are now traveling to realize their shared ambition of becoming nurses.
The parents of the girls, David and Yonette, lost their Queens, New York City, house in 2013. They told People that after that, their family relocated from one friend’s or relative’s home to another.
As for Lauren, 24, she stated, “It was challenging.” “There were a lot of really rocky, miserable times.”
Their father decided he didn’t want their circumstances to prevent them from pursuing their studies after two years of suffering. The sisters signed up for a homeschool program to obtain their GED after finding it difficult to attend school because of their frequent movements.
Dominique, 25, stated, “He didn’t want what we were going through to hold us back.”
The Lawrence sisters did overcome the odds. All six obtained their GEDs in 2019. Following that, they enrolled at Nassau Community College, and in May, they received their bachelor’s degrees in public health from SUNY Old Westbury.
“It’s been quite an experience,” Danielle, 22, remarked. “But our faith in God and in each other is what really got us through.”
These siblings, who range in age from 19 to 25, claimed they are only now beginning. They started a master’s degree in public health in August at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University, with plans to go to nursing school after that.
In addition, their father is proud of his girls for achieving their goals despite all the difficulties they had during their uncertain upbringing.
David remarked, “I’m so glad they did this together.” “I tell them that life isn’t fair all the time. Additionally, you must adapt to whatever curveballs it throws at you and go on.
