According to Lowe, who spoke to Business Insider, she has always wanted to realize her childhood passion for writing children’s books. When she finally decided to become a mother, she believed she could do it while working at T-Mobile, where she began her career in 2015.

While on maternity leave in 2021, Lowe collaborated with her daughter Kameryn to write seven picture books, giving her career as an author a formal start. She experienced postpartum anxiety, which forced her to leave her full-time career just as she was ready to return to it.

At the time, Lowe said that her books’ passive revenue stream kept her financially afloat more than her savings. She thought she could do more, even if her My Magical Brown Unicorn children’s book series did well on Amazon, Walmart, and Barnes & Noble at schools, museums, and neighborhood bookshops.

She then founded her publishing firm, Royaltee Press, which publishes her works. Eventually, she decided to grow her business and start Brown Unicorn Publishing, which provides publishing services to more clientele.

Brown Unicorn Publishing helps authors turn unpublished manuscripts into a finished book with editing, illustrations, typesetting, and formatting. Lowe also provides instruction so her customers can learn how to self-publish independently. Others use her ghostwriting services as well.

Lowe, who promotes her books and services on social media, claimed that thus far, her labor of love has paid off. In just nine months, she made over $30,000 from her publishing services. In addition, she has increased her monthly income to around $7,000 since she increased her services.
